Details of the measures to be taken for the control of termites in New Zealand under the Termites Act, 1940, are contained in the Termites ■Regulations which have just been issued. The regulations provide that the Governor-General may by Order in Council declare any local authority to be a local authority to which the Act applies, and within three months of such declaration the local authority must commence an inspection of its district for termites. If termites are found, samples are to be taken so that definite evidence that they are termites may be produdced before any action for their eradication is taken. The regulations also provide for building requirements that will prevent termites from gaining access to buildings.
