Mrs R. Guy, of Purriu Road, has returned from a holiday visit to Taranaki.
Miss Marjorie Gane, of Te Kawaleft yesterday for Kawhia, where she intends spending a week’s holiday.
Hiss McGovern, of Remuera, is at present visiting ! Te Awamutu as the guest of her sister, Mrs J. P. O’Sullivan, Teasdale Street.
Mrs J. "W|. Tyers and family, of Auckland, have returned home after spending a fortnight with her sister, Mrs C. B. Hall. Te Awamutu.
Cr E. F. Peacocke, who represents Rukuhia riding, was granted leave of absence at to-day’s meeting of the Waipa County Council.
Mrs Alan Kay, of Orakau, who has been holidaying at Cowes Bay, intends to stay a few days in Auckland before returning home.
Miss M. Quin, of “ Islabank,” Pirongia Road, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs H. K. Smith, in Sydney, is expected to arrive back in Auckland to-day.
Mrs R. Geo. Brown, of Pukekohe, accompanied by her little daughter, is spending a holiday with the former’s mother, Mrs C. B. Hall, of Te Awamutu.
Leave of absence was granted at Friday’s meeting of the Te Awamutu Power Board, to Mr J. A. G. Sutherland, of Kihikihi, a board member who is at present visiting southern districts.
Messrs Rex Wyllie and Hollier Tims, of Frontier Road, arrived home by the express this morning after a week’s vacation at Wellington. While there they visited the Exhibition and also attended the big sale of thoroughbred yearlings at Trentham.
Before routine business was commenced alt Friday’s meeting of the Te Awamutu Power Board, the chairman (Mr J. T.Johnson) referred to the bereavement sustained by a board memjber, Mr W. J. - North, in the death a few days earlier of his brother, Mr John T. North, The chairman mentioned the high esteem in which deceased had been held in the community; for his very sterling qualities. Board members stood in silence as a mark of sympathy with the bereft relatives.
The appointment of a number of officers to the temporary staff of the New Zealand military forces is announced in the Gazette. The list includes Lieutenant Colonel Sir Alexander F. Roberts, K.8.E., who is to be embarkation staff officer. Lieutenant D. A. Ewen (retired list) is to be captain and has been appointed assistant embarkation officer, together with Captain G. Pristor (retired list). Captain F. C. Gently, M.8.E., has been appointed railway transport officer at Wellington, and Lieutenant R. W. Mallasch is to be mechanical transport technical officer at Trentham military camp. Lieutenant Colonel Sir Alexander Roberts occupies the post of embarkation staff officer for the second time, as he undertook the same duties in Wellington for the New Zealand Expeditionary Force from 1914 to 1918.
