DEVASTATION OF WAR
An official statement issued by the French Government, concerning the destruction in the northern departments of the Republic during 191418, vßen the German troops occupied French territory, included the following:— Towns or villages entirely or partially destroyed, 3,720. population; driven out and rendered homeless, 2,712,000. Houses entirely destroyed, 319,269. Houses partially destroyed, 313,675.
Bridges, viaducts, &c. } destroyed, 4,785.
Railways destroyed (miles), 3,460. Roads destroyed (miles), 24,375.
