The Minister of Mines, the Hon. P. C. Webb, has announced that Cabinet had ar iroved the construction of two life-saving stations on New 7 ZeJnnd coalelds, one at Ohai, in Southland, the other in the Waikato. The stations would cost £7OOO, which would be defrayed by a levy on production. The construction of the stations would be expedited and both would be equipped with the most modem apparatus available. Mr Webb said he hoped the stations would never have to be used for the purpose for which they were being procured, but at the same time the Government felt it should take all precautions against loss of life and property.

The directors of the Centennial Exhibition have decided to open the exhibition, including the playground, from 2.30 p.m. until 9.30 p.m. on Christmas Day.
