SCHOOL CALF CLUB
ANNUAL FIELD DAY AT OTEWA. (Our Otorohanga Reporter.) Otewa settlement (near Otorohanga) was en fete on the occasion of the annual field day and calf club competitions, held in connection with the local school. There was a large attendance of district settlers, and the enthusiasm of the young folk was a marked feature of .the day’s proceedings. Mr V. McD. Hitchings acted as the judge. in the calf and lamb classes, and he demonstrated to the exhibitors and spectators the different points employed for show purposes. The prizes were finally awarded as follows: Best Jersey calf, judged on type: Ken Kingi 1, Robert Sutherland 2, Pixie Rankin 3. Best calf, open breeds: Rangi Tonga 1, Robert Larsen 2, Rona Larsen 3. Handling and condition (European children): Pixie Rankin i, Robert Sutherland 2, Mary Sutherland 3. Handling and condition (native children): Ken Kingi 1, Rangi Tonga 2, Tui Tonga 3. Best pet lamb: Douglas Rankin 1, Mary Sutherland 2, Pixie Rankin 3. The judge considered the exhibits to be well up to the high standard attained in the King Country. After the judging a generous aftqfcnoon tea was served by a large mittee of district ladies, headed the president of the Club, Mrs Taylor.
