PHYSICAL WELFARE
RECREATION FOR THE FORCESThe question of recreation for- the men in camps has been taken up by the Government. The needs of the camps vary greatly. For many of them recreation facilities are very well developed, particularly in the case of the permanent military camps such as Trentham and Burnham. In the newer and more isolated camps and Air Force bases they are less developed. Much has been done by private organisations, and it is proposed, so faifrom interfering with their organisations in any way, to work through them as far as possible. There are, however, many gaps, and since no organisation exists for co-ordinating
activities, it is proposed that the local Physical Welfare and ReciCcmm Committees in areas near the camps shall be constituted as sub-commit-tees of the Provincial Patriotic Councils. These have the local control of the expenditure of patriotic funds. In this way it will be possible to coordinate activities and expenditure. A wider and more thorough programme of recreation should be obtained as a result. The Physical Welfare and Recreation Committees will arrange functions as far as possible through local sporting and recreative organisations.
