HIGH PRAISE INDEED

LOCAL GOLF CLUB CONGRATULATED. RESEARCH COMMITTEE’S REPORT. Members of Te Awamutu Golf Club have reason to be proud of the improvement that has been effected since the Club acquired the property, about three years ago, from Mr W. B. Martyn, who had for years conducted as a dairy farm. At the annqal meeting of the Club on Wednesday evening it was stated that the advisory officer of the Greens Research Committee of the New Zealand Golf Association had reported very favourably upon the condition of the property. We have obtained permission to publish the report, which is as follows: “ I had a look over your course on 6th November, and I must congratulate you on the condition of the course generally. The greens are in firstclass order, and they are much better than many of the greens on some of our championship courses. “ The fairways are good enough for any golf course, and with regular cutting they will continue to improve. Your greenkeeper has carried out our programme in a most efficient manner, and the grounds committee has done everything possible to give you a good course.

“I recommend that you continue in the same way as you did last year, and you will find the course open for play next season equal to any of our top-notch courses. “ I anticipate that next year your course will rank as one of the best country courses in New Zealand, and that it will enjoy the reputation that Taumarunui did some years back. “Your members must appreciate the playing conditions, and this result has been brought about by excellent management by your committee and the confidence in which you have gone steadily ahead with the programme we had the pleasure of drawing up for you. “ I have discussed the summer programme with the greenkeeper, and with your grounds committee, and you can rely on them to watch your interests over the summer months, “ I wish only to add that I am delighted with the results you have obtained, and trust that the course will hold its present condition over the summer months. I hope to visit the course again in December.”
