War news: The German forces in France are being forced to retire, abandoning guns and supplies. The Russians have pressed Austria into further retreat. A British submarine sank the German cruiser Hela. The anti-neutrality agitation is spreading in Italy; public opinion is strongly favourable towards Britain.
Pirongia’s Patriotic Fund stands at £96 5s 6d.

The newly-elected Town Board members scored the following votes at the poll on Wednesday: A. S. Wallace 200, G. Spinley 165, S. C. Mathews 159, W. Taylor 151, and M. C. Lawson 137. Unsuccessful candidates were: J. B. Teasdale 135 and J. S. Reekie 101.
A Rangiaohia correspondent writes that rain is very badly needed in that district.
St. John’s Church bulb and flower show provided a remarkably fine display of bulbs and pot plants, with 'a good representation also in the home industries and decorative sections.
A concert and dance at Paterangi, at which several Te Awamutu entertainers assisted, realised over £ll for the Patriotic Fund.
