N.Z. DEFENCE LEAGUE

KAWHIA SUB BRANCH. A party of officials from the Otorohanga branch of the Defence League attended a meeting held in the Kawhia County Chambers on Saturday evening, to endeavour to inaugurate a local sub branch at Otorohanga. The meeting was well attended. Addresses were given by Mr .Patterson, the sec-

retary for the Otorohanga branch, and Major Westmacott, who outlined the principal aijns of the League, and urged the immediate formation of a sub-branch ip Kawhia. It was the feeling of those present that a sub branch be formed and a committee elected. The following resolution was carried unanimously, "That this subbranch, through the parent League, Wellington, recommend to the Government compulsory' universal training as the sole means of providing for the adequate defence of this Dominion and of the British Empire.”

The patriotic residents of Kawhia and the surrounding districts are reminded of the necessity for wholehearted support by way of donations and membership fees to facilitate organisation.
