SOCIAL AND PERSONAL

Mrs N. M. Thomson, of Rewi Street, who has been in Wellington awaiting the arrival of her mother, Mrs Dean, from Johannesburg, returns home tomorrow morning with her mother. Mr and Mrs Allan Brown, Wanganui, are visitors to Te Awamutu, and are guests of Mrs Brown’s mother, Mrs H. Spencer, Bank Street. The Hon. F. Langstone, Minister of Lands, who represented New Zealand at the International Labour organisation conference in London, has arrived at Wellington, accompanied by Mrs Langstone. An interesting visitor to the Salvation Army on Sunday will be Adjutant Chandler, known to hundreds of people in New Zealand as “Skipper” of 3YA. The Mouthorgan Band which the Adjutant formed some years ago, and which was heard over the air every Tuesday in the Children’s Hour, has not been forgotten.

Latest advices received from Mr George Spinley, of Te Awamutu, who has been on an extended holiday tour abroad, is that he was to leave England on August 30th on the Queen Mary for New York, and planned to spend about a week in New York before journeying across the Continent to San Francisco. Mr Spinley is travelling with Mr W. Brockelsby, of Hamilton, and they expected to leave San Francisco by the Mariposa on October 10th, reaching Auckland on October 27th. He reports a thoroughly enjoyable tour, and while in England found opportunity to visit his birthplace, and to meet several relatives, two of whom he said were over 90 years of age, and still hale and hearty. He also mentions meeting a sister of Mr W. Kirkham, of Te Awamutu.
