Mr H. E. Roberts, of Te Awamutu, left Wellington by the Awatea last Wednesday on a brief visit to Australia.

Mrs R. Lord, of Auckland, has been spending a few days in Te Awamutu as the guest of Mrs Dawson, College Street.

Mrs A. H. Laybourn, wife of the local postmaster, is now making satisfactory progress towards recovery after an indisposition of several weeks duration.

It has been arranged that Dr D. G. McMillan, M.P., will visit Te Awamutu on Monday, August 21st, and will address a public meeting that afternoon.

Mr W. Fanthorpe who has been on a tour of the United States and Australia, and is at present resident in Taumarunui, will be in Te Awamutu next wlek.

The engagement is announced between Ben, second youngest son of Mr and Mrs M. C. Andrew, of Pukeatua, and Molly, second youngest daughter of Mrs J. Keogh, Nixon Street, Hamilton East.

The engagement is announced of Noel K. S., eldest son of Mr and Mrs S. K. S. Tipping, of ‘Meadowbank,” Otorohanga, and Beryl, the youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Nelson Ranger, of Ohakune.

Mr W. Harte, of Timaru, has been appointed registrar of the Supreme Court and clerk of the Magistrate’s Court at Napier. Mr Harte, who is clerk of the Court at Timaru, has been in the service of the Department of Just-ice for thirty-five years.

At the Royal Academy dancing examinations held in Auckland on 2nd August, and conducted by Miss Kathleen Danetree (London), Miss Nita Williams, of Te Awamutu, passed with honours in grades one, two, three, and four.

Favourable reports continue to be issued respecting the condition of the Right Hon. M. J. Savage, Prime Minister, who entered Lewisham Hospital in Wellington to undergo an operation last week. He has made steady progress towards recovery. Mr Savage’s colleague, the Hon. P. C. Webb, who is also in Lewisham, is definitely on the road to recovery
