JUBILEE BOOKLET

A VERY FINE PRODUCTION, FULL OF FACTS AND ILLUSTRATIONS. One of the finest productions of the kind yet issued in New Zealand is the jubilee booklet produced in connection with the Te Awamutu Schools’ diamond jubilee, which is being held to-morrow. It traces, very concisely, the history of the school from its inception in 1839—it was a mission school —and in stages up to the present day. The preparation of the booklet entailed a vast amount of research, and the editor, Mr J. T. Petrie, prepared for the printers a remarkably fine folio. The production involved a lot of careful work, but the finished article makes a souvenir worthy of the. occasion, and should find a ready sale, especially to-day and to-morrow. The School Committee, it. is learned, originally planned to issue the booklet -for sale at about Is 6d, but there was such a mass of interesting and important data that the booklet become more elaborate, and the cost consequently rose, so that it was necessary to increase the price to 2s 6d per copy. In the booklet is a photo of the Hon. Minister of Education, with an appropriate message, and then a wellcompiled summary of the principal activities of the school. It is well illustrated, and a complete roll of the teaching staffs from the earliest times to the present day. The photographs include fine portraits of the first chairman of the School Committee, the present day chairman, and the present head master, a fine study of Te Awamutu’s Rhodes Scholas (Mr George Dalton), and also one of Master Clarence Hunter, who, it will be remembered, gave his life at Kawhia while attempting to rescue a school mate from drowning. The schools’ roll of honour, of expupils who served in the Great War, also occupies a place, while, perhaps most interesting of all is a fine double page illustration of the present day schools, including the new Intermediate High School opened last Wednesday by the Minister of Education under such pleasant auspices.
