RUGBY REFEREES

THE WAIKATO ASSOCIATION. MEETING AT CAMBRIDGE. The Waikato Rugby Referees’ Association held a meeting in Cambridge on Thursday everting, when the president, Mr A. C. Watkins, of Hamilton, presided over an attendance of 40 members from Te Awamutu, Taupiri, Hamilton, Cambridge, Morrinsville, Matamata and Putaruru. Also present were Mr A. - St. C. Belcher, chairman of the Waikato Rugby Union executive, and Mr D. Bourke, president of the Cambridge sub-Union.

It was decided to make a levy on all sub-associations to raise funds for a memorial to the late Mr D. McKenzie, a former chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Referees’ Association.

The matter of dangerous sprigs was discussed, and it was agreed that definite action should be taken against offenders. A suggestion that a weekly inspection be held, was referred back to sub-associations for action.

An interesting lecture on the offside rule was given by Mr E. Thorpe, of Hamilton, and the visitors were entertained to supper by members of the Cambridge sub-Association.
