Miss L. Johnson, of Waipawa, Hawke’s Bay, who has been visiting her old home at Ngaroto, returned south last Monday evening.
Mrs W. H. Davis and her daughter, Miss Rona Davis, of Brady Street, returned home this morning after an extended visit to relatives in the Nelson province.
At the statutory annual meeting of the Otorohanga County Council to-day, Mr P. D. Trowley was elected chairman. The retiring chairman is Mr W. B. Bluck.
The local stationmaster, Mr R. H. Annibal, is at present on annual leave, and his place is being filled by Mr E. T. Armstrong, of the local staff.
Miss K. Johnson, of Whangarei, after a holiday spent with her nephew, Mr C. A. Bowler, of Ngaroto, has now gone to visit relatives in Masterton, before returning to North Auckland.
Constable W. Kemp, of Hamilton, is at present relieving at the Te Awamutu police station, with Constable H. Carseldine, who is in charge until the arrival of Sergeant Clist from Taumarunui.
At the statutory. annual meeting of the Waipa County Council, at midday to-day, Mr S. C. Macky was unanimously re-elected chairman for his fourteenth successive term, having been first elected to the position in May, 1926.
Mr and Mrs C. J. Flay, of Te Rahu, have returned home after an enjoyable holiday spent at Raglan and Auckland. At the latter centre Mr Flay was one of the Waikato delegates at the provincial conference of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union.
It was stated at to-day's meeting of the Waipa County Council that the new engineer, Mr W. G. Macky, of Eketahuna, was expected to arrive in Te Awamutu on or about June 12, and take up his duties, in succession to Mr J. W. Civil, on July Ist.
Information to hand is to the effect that Mr J. D. Kerr, of Palmerston North, who was lately appointed clerk of the Courts at Te Awamutu and Cambridge, intends to make his headquarters in Te Awamutu, having obtained living accommodation here.
After his address at the local Town Hall last evening, Mr jj. Hargest, M.P. for Awarua, returned to Morrinsville, and to-day will go to Edgecumbe, Bay of Plenty, with Mr W. S. Goosman, M.P., in continuance of his northern campaign in the interests of the National Party.
With the Hon. H. T. Armstrong. Minister in charge of Housing Construction on his visit to Te Awamutu yesterday afternoon were Messrs A. Tyndall, Under-Secretary to the Department, W. J. Shanley, the Minister’s private secretary, and J. D. Clark, officer in charge,of the Waikato district.
Mr Thomas Mandeno, of Auckland, a pupil who attended the Te Awamutu School on the first day of instruction in the old Volunteer Hall (where the Town Hall stands now), in 1873, has advised the secretary of the Jubilee Committee that he will be present on the occasion of the jubilee celebrations on Saturday of next week.
Through the resignation of Mr F. W. Skeet, who lias left the district, a vacancy occurred on the Leamington Town Board. Only one nomination was received for the position, and Mr James Keeley has been declared elected. Mr Keeley has been associated with the Leamington district for many years. He will also be a member of the Leamington Domain Board.
