PIRONGIA NOTES

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE SOCIAL. (Our Own Correspondent.) A very happy card evening was spent in the Pirongia Library on Wednesday evening of last week, the function being arranged by the Women’s Institute. Flag five hundred was played, and the winners were Mrs G. Finn (Te Rore) and Mr A. Shaw. A tasty supper was served in front of the large open fire, and the whole evening proved very enjoyable. Golf is finding devotees at Pirongia, and many prospective members of a golf club assembled at Mr G. Bainbridge’s farm last Sunday afternoon to learn at least some of the intricacies of this fascinating recreation. The Ngutunui Football Club’s dance in the Ngutunui-Puketotara Hall on Wednesday evening proved a very successful one, with delightful music and a good attendance of patrons. A Monte Carlo competition created much interest, and was won by Miss Maud Eketone and Mr A. de Thierry. Supper was served by lady supporters of the club. Measles has taken its toll in this district, quite a number of residents being indisposed for a few days as a result, while the attendance at the local school has also been affected. Happily, no dangerous cases are reported. Among those residents who suffered severely were Mr and Mrs F. Bell, who, however, are now well on the road to a complete recovery.
