TE AWAMUTU POWER BOARD. INSPECTOR’S AND ENGINEER’S REPORTS. The following reports by the inspector, Mr A. J. Tailby, and electrical foreman, Mr E. Bryant, were presented at Friday’s meeting of the Te Awamutu Electric Power Board and adopted:— ENGINEER’S REPORT. Poles: Ninety-eight poles were carted and erected, of which 77 were for construction and 21 were for maintenance. Five 26ft iron bark poles were received. Lines: Four hundred and sixtyseven chains of wire were erected to supply new consumers, and 31 chains of 11,000 volt line were dismantled. This line was a temporary one for British Pavements Ltd. The Te Rore-Harapepe-Te Pahu sections of 3,300 volt lines were changed over to 11,000 volt. This work is now completed except changing the transformer at Paterangi sub-station -from 100 k.v.a. to 50 k.v.a., owing to the reduction of load on the 3,300 volt transformer. A 62 chains h.t. extension at Kopua, and a 17 chains l.t. extension at Park I Road, also a 28 chains h.t. extension at Korakonui were erected aiyi livened up during the month. The low tension lines in Alexandra Street were replaced with heavy section copper between Mutu Street and post office corner. Arrangements are made to replace the low tension in Arawata, Market and portion of Alahoe Streets with heavier copper as soon as the cable arrives. A fault was experienced in the business area of Te Awamutu on Friday, 3rd inst., and a third of this area had reduced voltage for approximately 1.1 hours. A stand-by transformer has been erected at the lower end of Arawata Street and the lines are now sectionalised to give a temporary supply ii required. The Kaniwhaniwha Road extension will be erected as soon as the necessary poles arrive. .Patrols and overhauling of lines were carried out when opportunity offered. Sub-stations: The earth leakage relay batteries at all sub-statiorfs were renewed. The capacity of the 11,000/ 400 volt transformer at Te Awamutu sub-station is being increased from 100 k.v.a. to 200 k.v.a. An additional 400 k.v.a. 11,000/3300 volt transformer which has been ordered for the Te Awamutu sub-station will double the present capacity. There has been a considerable increase in the loading of transformers this winter. Transformers: Three additional transformers were erected and three were replaced with larger units. Eighty gallons of oil were dehydrated. Power Supply: The peak load lor the present quarter remains the same as previously reported. Street lighting: Ten additional street lights and necessary lines were installed and two lights were shifted to new positions. This completes the Borough Council requirements. Three lamps were replaced on borough circuits and one was replaced at Ohaupo. Six sample gaseous discharge lamps were received and these will be erected on trial next week. Community lighting: Ten additional lights were installed. Three lights were dismantled for building alterations. Service lines: Twenty-six services were erected and a number were repaired or altered. Six services were disconnected and ten were reconnected. General: The usual fault work has been carried out and trees that were a hazard to lines were trimmed. The Albert Park trees in George Street are still causing trouble to our lines. The Borough Council were notified about this matter some time ago. Loading tests are being carried out where required. Transport: The vehicles travelled 6687 miles during the month. Delivery was taken of three trucks, ami the old vehicles were handed over to the purchaser. Surveys: Lines were surveyed at Kopua, Waipa River Road, Mangapiko, Frontier Road, Te Rore and Park Road (Te Awamutu). The plans for these are now being prepared. INSPECTOR’S REPORT. During the period since last meeting the following installations and extensions have been tested and inspected: Lighting plants 15, cow plant motors 5, separator motors 3, other power plants 3, water pump motors 3, washing machines 5, shearing plants 3, electric stoves 8, electric water heaters'lo; total for month 55. With the above new connections and after allowing for disconnections, temporary or otherwise, the figures at this i date are as follows: Lighting plants 2279, cow plant motors 773, separator motors 350, other power plants 98, water pump motors 586, washing machines 89, shearing plants 78, electric stoves 486, electric water heaters 919; grand total 5658. Also tested and inspected extensions on 21 lighting plants, representing an increase of .128 lighting points and 60 heating points, also 3 other power plants and 1 water heater. Total number of extensions to date 2935. Also tested and inspected alterations on 5 cow plants, 2 water heaters, 1 pump motor aryi 4 lighting plants. Meters: Installed 57, tested 65, changed 8, disconnected 2, reconnected 2, removed 1 and repaired 2. Enquiries: Attended to 76 enquiries. Made up specifications for 8 lightingplants, 3 cow plants, 3 water heaters, 1 stove, 1 water pump and 2 separator motors. Inspected 1 refrigerator. Total number of refrigerators inspected 101. Inspected 1 all electric radio set. Total number of radio sets inspected 551. Fire underwriters’ returns were made up for month of May, 1938. Progress inspections were continued. A special inspection of all consumers supplied from the Commercial Hotel transformer was made during the month. Kawhia: The petition to be included in the Te Awamutu Board’s area has received attention and is nearly completed.
