Dr M. J. P. Kelly, of Raglan, has left for Sydney en route to England.

The Hon. Elliot Davis, of Auckland is visiting Te Awamutu to-day.

Miss Tess Brennan and Miss Dorri Hollister, of Ohaupo, are spending a holiday in Auckland.

Miss N. Trafford, who has been enjoying a visit to Te Awamutu, has left on her return to Waitara.

Mr F. F. Rutherford, of Aria, has been appointed assistant secretary of the National Party in the Waitomo electorate.

The Prime Minister, the Right Hon. M. J. Savage, has accepted an invitation to open the National Dairy Show at Palmerston North on 14th June.

Mrs S. Clark, of Wallace Terrace, who has been on a visit to her mother, Mrs P. E. Cheal, Lochiel Road, R’emuera, returned to Te Awamutu yesterday.

Mr F. Aldridge and family, who have been share-milking on Jary’s Road, left this morning for M'orrinsville, where they have accepted a farm position.

Mr R. F. Land, a former resident of the district, is at present on a visit to Te Awamutu, renewing old friendships, and is the guest of Mr and Mrs E. W. White, of Puniu Road.

Mr Norman Ingpen, of Te Kuiti, has received notice of his appointment as accountant at the Bank of New Zealand, Levin. Mr Ingpen will take up his new duties at the end of this month.

Miss Pearl McGuinness, who has been the guest of Mrs E. Brennan at Ohaupo, has returned to her home at Maraenui, Opotiki. Mrs A. Benton, of Glenfield, has also been Mrs Brennan’s guest.

Mrs Bert Holmes and Miss Joan Rundle, of Bell Block (Taranaki), who have been on a short holiday to Te Awamutu, where they were the guests of Mrs R. L. Pepperell, Bank Street, returned to Taranaki yesterday morning.

The many friends of Mr XV. J. Thompson, of Te Rahu and Te Awamutu, will be pleased to learn that he is making satisfactory progress towards complete recovery from an ailment that necessitated a stay in a local private hospital for treatment.

The death occurred very suddenly at the Hamilton Hospital, on the 28th May, of Charles Edward, the young son of Mr and Mrs E. Levien, of Otorohanga. The largely attended funeral left the Anglican Church, Otorohanga. for the local cemetery, where the burial service was conducted by the Rev. Kenneth R. Small.

A resolution expressing appreciation of the long public service of Mr S. H. Crawford, of Tuakau, was passed at a meeting of the Raglan County Council. Mr Crawford represented the Onewhero riding on the council for 30 years, and it was decided to present him with an illuminated address at the next meeting in July. Mi’ Crawford did not seek re-election at the last poll.

Members of the Cambridge Electric Power Board re-elected Mr Mervyn Wells chairman at the 18th annual meeting held on Tuesday. Tn proposing the re-election of Mr Wells, who had been chairman since the board’s inception, Mr J. W. Garland said the progress of the board was largely due to the sound leadership of Mr XVells, who had the full confidence of members. Mr Garland was re-elected de-puty-chairman.

Mr W- Goodfellow, who now resides in Auckland, has accepted the position of chairman of the Dominion central committee which is organising the £300,000 Centenary Thanksgiving Fund of the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand, and has arranged to devote the greater part of this month in visiting the principal centres of New Zealand in order to confer with and assist committees that have been established in connection with the raising of the fund.

Former Te Awamutu residents, Mr and Mrs H. Y. Collins, now of 11, Rawhiti Avenue, Takapuna, quietly celebrated their golden wedding anniversary yesterday, having been married at St. John’s Church, Napier, on 31st May, 1888, the officiating clergyman being the Rev. Dean Hovell. Mr and Mrs Collins, after residing for over thirty years in Te Awamutu, where they took a prominent part in the town’s affairs and earned the esteem of the whole community, removed to Takapuna a couple of years ago. They will have the hearty congratulations of a -legion of friends here upon the auspicious occasion.

Mr Raymond Lawson, who was injured in Sydney on Sunday in an aeroplane crash, is the son of Mr M. C. Lawson, who at one time was in partnership with Mr W. Swain in the conduct of the auction mart in Market M1 ‘ Raymond Lawson, who is 33 years of age, was educated at Te Awamutu Public School and Hamilton High School. After leaving school he joined the firm of Messrs Turnbull and Jones, electricians. Going to Australia in 1925, he travelled as a radio engineer, and later became president of the Tamworth Gliding Club He joined the Royal Australian Air *’ orc e two years ago, being posted to the City ot Sydney bombing squadron. Mr Lawson is married, and has a son aged six years. He has two relatives in Auckland Mrs E S Holmes and Mr L. W. Lawson, both ot Devon port.
