It will be noticed that gross receipts from wool sold in New Zealand this season are less than those of last season by £6,209,384. A lighter weight of wool was sold and the market for the 1937-38 season was lower than that of last season, the average return per bale being £l4 6s 2d against £22 9s per bale for last season. The above figures refer to wool sold in New Zealand, not to wool exported, which will include wool shipped on owners’ account for sale elsewhere than in New Zealand,, and wool bought privately; also freezing companies’ and fellmongers’ wool.
