Play in the open championship and the Arikikapakapa Cup contest of the Rotorua Ladies’ Golf Club was continued on Wednesday and concluded yesterday. One of the surprises of Wednesday was the defeat of Miss P. Bell, of Seafield, by Mirs L. Day (Hamilton). Although only 18 years of age Miss Bell has already established a reputation as one of the most promising young golfers in the Dominion. The match went to the 18th, when Mrs Day proved the winner, 1 up. Mrs H. McDonald (Te Awamutu), registered a good win against Mrs Foreman (Merawai), the lowest handicapped competitor in the tournament. Mrs McDonald won, 2 up and 1 to play putting lapses being mainly responsible for Mrs Foreman’s defeat. Mrs McDonald had an easy win in the second round, beating Mrs L. Day (Hamilton), 5 up and 4 to play. In the semi-final Mrs McDonald was defeated by Mrs G. W. Foote (Whangarei), 3 up and 2 to play. It was the more accurate putting of Mrs Foote which won her the match.

Mrs P. R. Glanville (Te Awamutu), on Wednesday morning, won her match, beating Miss F. Hewitt (Morrinsville) 3 up and 2 to play. In the afternoon, however, she was eliminated, being defeated after a great contest, by Miss J. Duncan (Wanganui), the title holder, 2 up and 1 to play. The open championship was won by Miss J. Duncan, Wanganui, for the second year in succession when she defeated Mrs G. W. Foote, Whangarei, 7 and 5, after a particularly steady exhibition. The Arikikapakapa Cup, which is decided on handicap, was won by Miss M. Pearce, Wairarapa, who staged a great finish over the last three holes to win from Mrs T. Waddell, New Plymouth, on the 19th. THE OTOROHANGA CLUB. COMPETITION RESULTS. The leading scores in the eclectic competition now being played on the Otorohanga links are: N. Ormsby 66, Cyril Jackson 70, E. Taylor 72, Chris. Irvine 77. A Stableford bogey match resulted in a win for M. Thompson, with 30 points, the runner-up being E. Taylor with 27 points.
