THE LABOUR PARTY
WAITOMO REPRESENTATION COMMITTEE. ELECTION OF PRESIDENT. The May meeting of the Waitomo Labour Representation Committee, held at Te Kuiti, brought an attendance of over 60 members from all parts of the electorate. Mr G. Cameron tendered his resignation as president and several delegates spoke in glowing terms of the services rendered by him and raised the g-eneral regret felt that he w#s unable to continue to fill the position. Thereafter, Mr A. N. Aldridge, of Tangita, was elected to fill the vacant presidency, and Mr P. J. Murtagh, of Te Mawhai, was appointed vice-president and Mr K. Hunkin to the resultant vacancy on the executive.
Reports were received of the meetings recently addressed in the Waitomo electorate by Mr J. G. Barclay, M.P., for Marsden. All spoke of the impressive results gained, and of the thorough knowledge displayed by Mr Barclay of the problems of the farmer, the result of a lifetime experience. A strong effort is to be made to obtain the services of other speakers of this calibre.
The report and suggestions of the organising committee were received and adopted, and in reply to a question, “How is the Labour Party doing now?” the secretary replied, “Onward and upward.” An outline of the proceedings at the annual Party Conference was given by Mr Jack Jones, who referred particularly to those problems affecting the Waitomo electorate, and to the measures proposed to deal with them.
