SPORTS AT HONIKIWI
NEW YEAR DAY’S GATHERING. The Honikiwi Sports and Picnic was held on the banks of the Moakurarua on New Year's Day, and in spite of a late start being made on account of the weather, there was a very good attendance. The various items on the programme were run under keen com petition, running, chopping, sawing and the horse events causing great excitement in the final heats. Some of the trophies won by the competitors were donated by the business people of Otorohanga, two special prizes being donated by Messrs T. McCready and G. Halliday. Bending Competition: D. Williamson 1, L. Williamson 2. Open fchop: First heat. H. Graham (11 sec) 1, T. McCready (scr) 2, R. Slatter (3 sec) 3. Second heat.— Jock Graham (18 sec) 1, John Gra- 1 ham (scr) 2, K. Graham (9 sec) 3. Third heat.—H. Roberts (9 sec) 1, R. Harty (14 sec) 2, R. Sklenars (9 sec) 3. Semi-final. —John Graham 1, T. Time “pretty fast.” A very enjoyable dance was held in Mr Graham's barn in the evening, when the various prizes won were presented to the winners by Mr J. H. Graham.
