LOCAL BODIES MERGER
CONFERENCE OF DISTRICT RABBIT BOARDS. TO CONSIDER GOVERNMENT PROPOSALS. With attention focussed more particularly on county councils, in connection with the proposals of the Minister of Internal Affairs for a merging of several local bodies, public interest has been apt to overlook the possibility of amalgamation of some of the smaller local bodies, such as drainage boards, rabbit boards, etc. It is interesting to note that a .step of some importance has been taken by the Wharepuhunga-Korakonui Rabbit Board, in this connection, for at a meeting of that Board on Wednesday the secretary was instructed to call a meeting of representatives from all rabbit boards in the district of which Te 'Awamutu is the centre in order- to discuss the principles and provisions of the Local Government (Amalgamation Schemes) Bill. The conference is to take place on Wednesday afternoon of next week, in the offices of the Waipa County Council, and it is desired that there shall be full representation with a view to full consideration being given to a matter of considerable importance to all rabbit boards in particular and all local bodies in general.
