SPEED RESTRICTIONS
WITHIN WiAIPA COUNTY/ TRANSPORT COMMISSIONER’S ATTITUDE. The Waipa County Council, at last Monday’s meeting, again considered proposed speed limits within the county. The Commissioner of Transport advised that subject to the concurrence of the Council he was prepared to recommend speed restrictions in the county of Waipa as follows: — 1. The Great South Road, from the Hamilton borough to Forest Lake Road. The further section to Vercoe Road is open, and it would be unreasonable to expect the speed limit to be generally observed. 2. The Great South Road from, the borough of Hamilton to the southern boundary, as requested. 3. Frankton-Pirongia main highway, for 18 chains from the borough boundary, as requested. 4. Kopu-Raglan main highway for 5 chains frqm the western boundary of Hamilton borough. The purpose of this restriction is to slow up traffic before reaching the junction of roads at the boundary, and a distance of five chains should be sufficient. 5. The Great South Road for 15 chains north of Te Awamutu, as requested. 6. The Te Awamutu-Cambridge main highway from the borougn boundary to Te Rahu Road. Ido not consider it necessary to extend the restriction beyond the junction on either the highway or Te Rahu Road. One sign suitably placed at this junction should be visible when approaching from either road. The writer stated that he would communicate later with the Council, after obtaining the views of the Main Highways Board regarding restrictions at Ohaupo and Kihikihi. Cr Livingstone commented that the decisions were practically in line with the views expressed by the Council, and it was decided to notify concurrence with the proposals.
