SOCIAL GATHERINGS
A SURPRISE PARTY. Mrs K. C. Rickit’s beautiful home in Alexandra Street was “ invaded” on a recent afternoon by a large number of her friends as a surprise party intent upon recognising her birthday. Mrs Rickit received the visitors wearing a frock of brown crepe de chine, and the room had been tastefuly decorated with daffodils and Iceland poppies. A box of beautiful violets was presented to Mrs Rickit with the best wishes of all present. Community singing was indulged in, and little Elaine North contributed solo dances, and Mrs J. Oliphant vocal solos, both items being warmly received. Among those present were Mesdames R. Lord (Auckland), R. Connal, W. Jeffery, R. Dawson, Raymond Jones (Auckland), F. L. Dunn, C. W. Rickit, C. G. Downes, J. Oliphant, R. Dawson, J. Walton (Pokuru), P. Wing (Auckland), H. Wing, J. W. Civil, J. A. Hawkins, C. F. Storey, M. Bluck, J. B. W. Roberton, L. G. Armstrong, E. Potts, W. D. R. McCurdie, F. D. McGovern, R. Griffith, R. North, A. W/. Pollard, and L. Teasdale, and the Misses Rose Lord (Auckland), S. Empson, Teasdale, Elliott, and B. Montefiore.
