PETROL PRICE FIXATION

SYSTEM CRITICISED. If the fixation of the price of petrol in Taranaki is a fair sample of what the public is to receive under the “orderly production, marketing and distribution,” so lauded as the aim cf the Government, quite a number of people are likely to revert to the opinion that there was something to be said for the competitive system. Prices for petrol in Taranaki have been fixed by the Government on the basis of landed costs at Auckland or Wellington plus transportation to the province. Those responsible for the price fixation have ignored the fact that Taranaki possesses a deep-sea port through which about one-third of the petrol used in the province is now being landed., —Taranaki Daily News.
