FAREWELL AFTERNOON

GLEE CLUB’S POPULAR ACCOMPANIST. A very pleasing afternoon was held at the residence' of Mrs H. Steer on Wednesday last. The lounge was beautifully decorated with Iceland poppies and spring flowers. Almost a lull membership of the Glee Club of tiie Women’s Institute met to bid farewell to Mrs. Cooke, their very excellent accompaniste. During tlie afternoon items were rendered by tlie Glee Club. Mrs W. F. oWodward contributed to the programme with a very pleasing solo. Afternoon tea was served by the members, during which Mrs Steer was asked to make a presentation to Mrs Cooke of a beautiful bedroom clock on behalf of the Glee Club members. Mrs Steer spoke very feelingly of Mrs Cooke, not only of her ability as accompaniste, but her many sterling qualities and how she had been an inspiration to many with tlie courage and determination that she faced life under adverse conditions. Mrs Steer expressed the sincere wishes of every member that, sorry as they were to lose her, they sincerely hoped it would be for the betterment of Mrs Cooke and her family. Mrs Cooke suitable replied. Mrs Wood then presented Mrs Cooke with a beautiful bouquet, and a very happy afternoon was brought to a close with the singing of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”
