MOTOR NOTES

UNIQUE RECORD. , 25,000,000 FORDS, ONE-THIRD OF WORLD OUTPUT. A unique record, and one that will probably never be broken, was established a few weeks ago when the millionth Ford —one of the new V-8 models now on display locally—came off the assembly lines. Such a colossal output is an amazing tribute to an amazing man. It was Ford’s famous Model “T, ’ of which some 16 million were made, that first brought the motor car within the reach of the man of moderate means. The first Fords were marketed in 1903. The model “T” was followed in 1927 by the Model “A,” of which about 5 million were sold in five years. Then came the V-8. Whilst on the subject of big outputs of automobiles, it is worthy to note that, alk though the world’s motor industry is not yet 40 years of age, over 75 million cars and motor trucks have been put into service since 1900, so that Ford’s output of 25 millions represents one-third of the entire world output. To-day there are 40 million cars and motor trucks serving mankind. THE NEW V-8. The new V-8 Ford is the finest to j make its appearance. Its sleek lines j flow without a break from the smart | radiator grille to the graceful curve s of the rear quarter. The handsome J line is emphasised by the V-type t windscreen. Women will appreciate | th® new “finger-tip” steering which

makes control exceptionally easy and eliminates fatigue even on a long drive. The starter button has been removed from the floor to the instrument panel within easy reach of the hand. The body is insulated and is also air cushioned in rubber at 32 points. Improved rubber cushioning of the engine, new fan design, refinements in the rear axle and new interleaf spring pressure lubrication are some of the features that eliminate sound and add to riding pleasure. Safety glass, as in previous models, is fitted in the windshield and all windows. The new V-shape windshield, which opens at the bottom, greatly reduces dazzle from oncoming headlights at night and further improves vision. The parking brake is now placed under the instrument panel in a convenient position on the right had side of the steering column. The new adjustable front seat rises as it moves forward, and the back automatically assumes a more upright position, enabling a person of short

jtature or a woman driver to sit a little higher.

The new “easy action” braking system has greater stopping efficiency and requires less pedal pressure. The design of the braking system is sucli that the axles are not affected by brake operation, nor is such operation affected by axle motion due to the spring flexibility. The structure of the New Ford V-8 is all steel. The body is sheathed with steel panels—roof, sides and floor. The largest steel stamping ever used in Ford car manufacture forms the roof of new Ford V-8 closed car bodies. Engine refinements in the new Ford V-8 have produced a new standard of fuel and oil economy without in any way detracting from the brilliant performance of this popular car. Changes in the cooling system contribute to improved engine efficiency. The new design assures more positive cooling action. The new Ford V-8 will appeal to women because it embodies features of design and equipment that are important to a woman driver. The treatment is modern, the seats are wide, high backed and softly cushioned. The new hardware is dignified and attractive. The instrument panel is walnut grained. An ash tray is mounted in the rear part of the De Luxe Touring Sedan. There is a glove and purse compartment in the instrument panel. An arm rest is mounted on the driver’s door and on each side of the rear seat. Six smart body colours are available.

“Lumme,” said the new convict as he learned the rules and regulations of the prison. “There seems, to be a lot I mustn’t do. Am I allowed to look out of the window?” •

“No,” replied the warder. “That’s burred.”

reap the results as well as myself. I do hope it won’t crush you.” By this time cold perspiration stood upon his forehead, with the fear of some terrible unknown calamity. He turned the page, his hair slowly rising, and read: “The coal is all used up! Please call and order some to be sent this afternoon. I thought by this method you would fiot forget it.” He didn’t.

A young wife in Brooklyn recently gave her husband a sealed letter, begging him not to open it until he got to his place of business. When he did so he read: “I am forced to tell you something that I know will trouble you, but it is my duty to do so. I am determined you shall know, let the result be what it may. I have known for a week it was coming, but kept it to my self until to-day, when it has reached a crisis, and I cannot keep it any longer. You must not censure me too harshly, for you must
