REGENT THEATRE. COMMENCING TO-NIGHT. “TARZAN ESCAPES.” Tarzan, amazing character of the fiction of Edward Rice Burroughs, comes once more to the screen, as Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan are re-united in “Tarzan Escapes,” Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s latest jungle adventure romance to be seen commencing to-night at the Regent Theatre. The present day story marks the closest approach of Tarzan to civilisation. He is captured by a “bring ’em back alive" animal collector who locks him in a cage and plans to take him to London to exhibit. In a thrilling and dramatic climax the son of the primeval wilds outwits his civilised enemy, saves himself, and also his animal friends. Breath-taking and spine-tingling factors of the new picture include giant vampire bats from whose attack Weissmuller rescues a safari; the routing of an army of savages by a herd of stampeding elephants; native tortures; a plunge over a cliff, and a perilous escape from death in a crocodile infested river. As in the preceding Tarzan stories Weissmuller swings his way through the jungle via trees and vines and in other ways exhibits his magnificent athletic prowess. EMPIRE THEATRE. COMMENCING TO-NIGHT. “FATAL LADY.” Commenting on the screening of “Fatal Lady,” the principal offering at the local Empire Theatre this week-end, an overseas critic says: “Mary Ellis, the fatal lady of the title, manages to fit in an extensive repertoire of operatic music between the murder of her lovers, and there’s even quite a fair smattering of comedy from Ruth Donnelly and Edgar Kennedy.” “Fatal Lady” is an American production that Edward Ludwig produced. Mary Ellis and Walter Pidgeon have the principal roles. The management has chosen well for its supporting featurettes.
