AGREEMENT REACHED

DISTRICT CARTAGE RATES. RESULT OF LENGTHY CONFERENCE. The conference convened by Mr E. J. Phelan, No. 1 Transport Licensing Authority, between the Waipa Master Carriers’ Association, the Te Awamutu branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union and other interested parties was continued on Wednesday afternoon and to a later hour in the evening.

At the request of the Carriers and the Farmers Mr H. Anderson of the Transport Department, took the chair. Representing the Carriers’ Association were Messrs R. G. Andrew (prnsident), A. Rowan. E. Glassey, F. Parsons, J). Clark -and A. E. Wilson. The Farmers' Union was represented bv Mr A. T. Bryant (president), andMessrs G. T. Crawley, D. H. Cavers, W. J. Hodgson, and C. J. Flay. Lt.-Col. J. Matson (chairman of the Kawhia County Council) represented the Council. At. the outset the representatives of the Farmers’ Union made it clear that their authority was restricted to the local Union but they would undertake to recommend any agreement reached for adoption by the Waikato Sub-Provincial Centre or by the Auckland Provincial Centre. After much discussion on the various points agreement was reached regarding all charges. The agreed rates which represent considerable reductions from the schedule drawn up by the Carriers’ Association in Septem ber last were as under:— MANURE AND ALL BAGGED GOODS. 1 mile 3s, 2 miles 3s 6d, 3 miles 4s Subsequent to 15 miles at 9d per mils, and beyond 15 miles at 8d per mile. TIMBER (at per 100 feet.) s. d. Te Awamutu Borough 1 6 1 mile 1 6 2 miles 1 9 3 miles 2 0 Thereafter Id per 100 feet per mile. FENCING DROPPERS OR BATTENS. To be based on 400 to' the ton. At manure rates plus Is per 100 for loading and unloading. FENCING POSTS. To be based on 40 to the ton. At manure rates. COAL CARTAGE. A. Loose Coal: At manure rates plus 9d per ton. B. Bagging Coal: At manure rates plus 3s per ton. SHINGLE. At per cubic yard. One mile 4s plus royalty. Thereafter Is per yard per mile. PIG CARTAGE. A,. Ex-saleyards and within 1 mile (full loads) 4d per pig.

Minimum load 15 pigs. Small pigs pro rata. If loading race and pens provided and no tyre chains necessary, above rates less 3d per head nett. WOOL. At per bale. Minimum load 6 bales, s. d. Up to 5 miles -2 0 per bale Thereafter Id per bale pel- mile. SHEEP RATES. A. Fat Lambs: Minimum load 80 lambs. Up to 2 miles 2d per lamb Thereafter Id per mile per lamb. B. Store Lambs: Minimum load 100 lambs. Above rates less 25 per cent. C. Stere Sheep: Minimum load 60 sheep. Above rates ulus 25 per cent. D. Fat Sheep: Minimum load 50 sheep. Above rates plus 371 per cent. FURNITURE REMOVALS. Cartage Is per mile (both ways). Leading and unloading 10s per hour. Extra man assisting 3s per hour. CARTAGE NOT COVERED BY ANY OF THE FOREGOING. Ten shillings per hour. Extra labour assisting 3s per hour. SPECIAL CONDITIONS. 1. Pig cartage rates nett. 2. All other rates subject to a- cash discount of 5 per cent, if paid on or before 27th of the month following the month of service. 3. Back-loads: (a) Where back-load provided by hirer rebate of 25 percent. to be allowed off charge for back-load, (b) Where back-load arranged by hirer rebate of 25 per cent, to be allowed off charge for back-load, such amount to be divided equally between the hirer and the provider of the back-load.
