Early in the New Year work will be started on the construction of 375 houses in the Wellington district as the first large housing scheme prepared by the new Department of Housing Construction, which was created in September last to give effect to the Government’s policy. Tenders are being called through the newspapers for nineteen contracts. It is the in tent io 1 , of the Government also to invite applications for the lease of the new joinery factories at Kaiwarra, Wellington and at Penrose, Auckland, to firms offering to manufacture joinery on the most favourable terms.
