A WINTER BONUS

CO-OPERATIVE PIG MARKETING ASSOCIATION. In an interview with a representative of the “Courier”, Mr W. A. Phillips, Chairman of Directors of the New Zealand Co-operative PigMarketing Association, Limited, stated, inter alia that the usual Second or interim, payment would be made to suppliers this month on pigs supplied from June Ist, to October 31st (inclusive). In these months, compared with a corresponding period last year, supply showed an increase of over 41 per cent. Realisations so far completed, both for export and local consumption, for pigs handled during this period have been very satisfactory, and since the outlook of the Export Market upon which the balance of stocks will be sold is very promising, the following cash payments have been decided upon:—Porkers, to 80 lbs lid per lb; 81 to 100 lbs, lid per lb; 101 to 120 lbs, lid pel’ lb; Baconers, lid per lb; Choppers 3d per lb; Unexportable Porkers, 3d per lb; "Unexpoitable Baconers, 3d per lb. These payments are exclusive of share credits, both in respect of capital and shareholders’ bonus on qualified supply, which will be adjusted in the Final Payment to suppliers at the usual time after the close of the Company’s financial year. Asked as to the piospects for an increase in our exports for the present season, Mr Phillips stated that the present outlook was promising, in which a pleasing feature was the recent high values ruling for baconers, which, although due to a local shortage now practically overtaken, would have the effect of stimulating pioduction in this class of pig which was very desirable in the interests of ou’ Export Trade. While up to the present Baconer values 'have been very largely influenced by local factors, now that supply is more plentiful and current curers’ requirements have been satisfied, prices must adjust themselves to export values. Somewhat similar considerations attach to the Export Porker Market, which is subject to a seasonal demand. usually leaching its peak during the Christmas period for which pigs purchased for shipment from now on cannot be availed of. It is. howbver, nett unlikely that normal trade factors may next year, be affected by reason of increased consumption due to the Coronation celebrations, in which event the normal peak periods may have a greater spread.
