ST. JOHN’S GIRLS’ CLUB
ANOTHER HAPPY EVENING. A large gathering of members assembled in the club room last Monday evening, and a very happy time was spent in games, competitions, and community singing. Miss Focke was asked, on behalf of all members of the Girls’ Club, to make a presentation to Mrs S. R. Wareing, who is leaving shortly for England. The gift was a handsome leather suit case. Mrs Wareing thanked the members warmly for such a valuable parting present, and said it would go with her everywhere, reminding her always of the girls of St. John’s Girls’ Club. She said she was assured of the success of the Club if future presidents received similar support to that which had been given her. Mrs Wareing added that it was very hard to realise that they would not all be together again, but she hoped to come in contact again with the girls wherever they should be when she and Mr Wareing returned to New Zealand. She concluded: “I have enjoyed working with you, girls, and can only hope that in the years to come you, too, will look back with happy memories to the three years when I was your president. Instead of good-bye I will say farewell or kia ora.” The evening terminated after a verydainty supper had been served and all had joined in singing “ Auld Lang Syne.”
