WORTHY SETTLERS
FAREWELL AT KAIPAKI. In spite of the stormy conditions last week over 200 people assembled at the Kaipaki Hall on Thursday evening to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs J. M. Boyd and their family. Representatives were present from all the sports bodies in the surrounding districts, Te Awamutu, Hamilton, Ohaupo, Rukuhia, Frontier Road and Cambridge. Mr and Mrs Boyd have lived in Kaipaki for the past 18 years, and during that time both Mr and Mrs Boyd and their family have taken a keen interest in and helped considerably with all things pertaining to the progress of the district, also to its sporting and social side. Mr J. Graham, who was the chairman for the evening, spoke of the sterling qualities of the Boyd family and of how they would be missed, and asked Mr and Mrs Boyd to accept from the residents of the district a silver tea and coffee service, on an oak silver mounted tray, suitably engraved. To Miss Margaret Boyd he presented a gold wristlet watch, and to Mr Gordon Boyd a gentleman’s dressing case and solid leather suit case. Mrs Boyd and Miss Boyd were also the recipients of beaiutiful bouquets. On behalf of the Waipa Country Cricket Association, the president, Mr W. Whitton (Te Awamutu) spoke of the good work of Mr Boyd for the cricketers, and on behalf of the association presented him with a leather wallet and leather tobacco pouch. Several other presentations were made to the departing family.
