PIG RECORDING

GOVERNMENT PROPOSALS EXPLAINED. An explanation of the proposed Government scheme for the recording of pedigree sows was given to the executive of the Waikato Pig Recording and Research Association on Wednesday evening at Hamilton by Mr A. H. Cockayne, Director General of Agriculture. It was pointed out by Mr Cockayne that the Department of Agriculture desired to work with the recording clubs, in whose hands would be left the recording of pigs in their area. The Government’s proposal would only be the forerunner of a more complete recording scheme. Under the Government’s scheme the pedigree breeder was required to have every sow recorded, and any recording of grade sows would have to be left to the recording clubs. At the conclusion of Mr Cockayne’s address the executive expressed itself well satisfied with his explanation and promised co-operation in developing the educative side of the pig industry.
