ORPHANS’ CONCERT
A SPLENDID ENTERTAINMENT
“A prophet,” it is said, “is not without honour except in his own country.” The same thing would seem to apply to Stephans’ concert parties, for the Te >Woha Orphans when giving concerts in surrounding disticts drew some very good houses and succeeded in raising quite a respectable fund on behalf of the A., P. and H. Association. When they came to hold a concert in Tc Aroha last Friday evening, however, in order to help their own piano fund the attendance, considering the beautiful night they chose, was very poor indeed. Nevertheless, no Orphan can be daunted by a poor house, and the concert given by them was a credit to them, and could not have been bettered if the auditorium had held of/er a thousand people instead of a mere hundred. The artists were without exception in tip top form, and their items were so well received that one and all were recalled again and again. Whatever the audience lacked in numbers it undoubtedly made up in appreciation, for the reception they accorded the performers was whole hearted and genuine. Most of the audience was made up of people from the surrounding districts. In addition to the local performers there were several items from members of the Morrinsville Club, who journeyed over to lend their assistance to their brethren of Te Aroha. Items were rendered by the following artists: The Orphans’ orchestra, selections; Bros. Morgan, vocal items, Bradley, recitations, Caudwell, humorous song, Flatt, Violin solo, Echlin, vocal items, Wykes, humorous recitations, Briggs, v,ocal items, Tibbott, humour, Andrew, humorous songs, and Christensen, musical saw.
