BUS SERVICE
BETWEEN PAEROA AND THE PLAINS SUPPORT FROM NETHERTON Settlers of Netherton, at a meeting of the Ratepayers’ Association on Saturday evening, on being asked to express an opinion as to whether they considered the establishment of a passenger service from the Plains to Paeroa was warranted, pledgfed themselves to support the proposed service when it commenced and to help the organiser in all possible ways. Mr W. Fleming, of W. Fleming and Son, Paeroa and Ngatea, waited upon the association and explained his proposition and asked for an expression of opinion. His proposal was to commence a service between Paeroa and either Netherton or Ngatea. The fares would be half the present fares which, he considered, were much too hig-h. The fare between Ngatea and Thames was 4/6 return, and between Ngatea and Paeroa £1 return. Paeroa was not getting the business it deserved because of the high rate. Mr Fleming said he proposed usinga 16 passenger vehicle and running to a time-table that would be most suitable to the settlers. He desired ah expression of opinion as to what times would be most acceptable to the settlers. Until he had conferred with the Ngatea people it was his intention to run from a suitable point at Netherton. The president and several members of the association congratulated Mr Fleming on his enterprise, and wished him success. They promised to support his service and to do everything in their power to assist it. On the meeting pledging itself to support the service Mr Fleming assured those present that he would do everything in his power to give good service and warrant the confidence of the settlers. —Plains Gazette.
