BOROUGH COUNCIL ELECTION.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I believe in letting sleeping dogs lie, but since the recent borough election I have heard so much about so and so going to resign if I was elected to a seat on the Council that I must say I still maintain that I was wanted by a majority of the ratepayers, but owing to the strong influence of certain members of the old Council and the above threats of resigning, etc., by certain members of the old Council, I was defeated by two new members, Cr. Kennedy who topped the poll by 111 votes, and Cr. Woodroffe by 47 votes. Cr. Sellars beat me by 108 votes, Cr. Hedge, a councillor for 7 or 8 years by 53 votes, Cr. Ada Gordon, a member for 4 years, 45 votes, Cr. Hamilton, a member for 4 years, 34 votes, Cr. McMahon, .a councillor for 4 years, 35 votes, and Cr. Manners, the Council’s nominee, 15 votes. I defeated an old councillor by 25 votes. These figures point conclusively to the fact that the ratepayers are not satisfied with the doings of the old Council, and I challenge any of the councillors, from Cr. Ada Gordon down, to resign their seat and contest a new election at my expense and with profit to the ratepayers. I can assure the ratepayers that if the opportunity occurs I will be in a chair at the Council table to look after their interests. —I am, etc., S. McKIBBIN. Te Aroha, May 20th, 1925.
