and special prayers were offered at St. Mark’s.
The flags over the post office and other buildings in the town were flown half-mast yesterday. Owing to a rope breaking the hoisting of the flag in the Domain was delayed till repairs could be effected. The Mayor (Mr R. Coulter) telegraphed the following message to Mrs Massey yesterday: “On behalf of the burgesses of Te Aroha, I desire to express to you our sincere sympathy with you in your bereavement sustained through the loss _of your husband, our esteemed Prime Minister.”
His Worship the Mayor invites the business people of Te Aroha to close their respective places of business all day on Thursday.
