GENERAL
In the flower garden the hoe should be kept going in order to keep down weeds and to conserve moisture. The recent rains have done good in the gardens but unless a fine tilth is kept on the beds they soon dry up through evaporation' and the plants do not get the benefit. Continue to sow French beans, silver beet, spinach, turnips, and a small sowing of shorthorn carrots may be made. If the weather is favourable for planting, cauliflowers, cabbage, bioccoli and savoy may be put out. Should the tomatoes show any sign of blight spray with a 4-4-40 Bordeaux mixture. The Bordeaux can be procured in powder form and small quantities made up as required. Clear off all refuse vegetables and leaves and place in a heap to rot for manure. Dig over roughly any spare ground and allow to lie fallow till required. This helps to keep the soil sweet and in good heart, the action of the sun on the broken surface being \eiy beneficial to succeeding crops.
