BOWLING
PAIRS COMPETITION Despite the wet weather, a start was made on Wednesday with the Club competitions. The first game played was between Messrs Wykcs and Boles and Willcox and Firkin, senr. At the 6th head the contestants were square—4 each. At the 9th head Boles’ score increased to 8. On the 10th head Willcox made the splendid addition of 6—making their score 10 —B. On the 16th head the scores were Willcox 16, Boles 10, but on the next head Boles got even with Willcox’s fine score by securing a well-de-served 6, making the players all square on 16. On the 21st head the players were 19 each, and so the 22nd head was played. By this time the interest in the game was particularly interesting, for each player was right up to form and using considerable judgment. The game was won by Willcox 20—19. On Saturday further Pairs matches and Novices Singles will be played. The greens arc in splendid order. Mr Hesketh does not intend to open the lower green until well into December. V
