DAIRY INDUSTRY

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH At a meeting of committeemen representing suppliers from the N.Z. Go-op. Dairy Company, Ltd., held at Waitoa last yveek, the question of scientific research in the industry was brought up, and a resolution was passed on the motion of Mr F. M. Strange, of Mangaiti, requesting the Government to carry out further investigation in this important branch of the industry. The Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Nosworthy, hafe replied stating that the Live Stock Division of the Department of Agriculture has now in hand a special investigation into dertain diseases of dairy cows, and that a highly trained veterinary officer has been relieved of his ordinary duties so that he may devote the whole of his time to this work. The Minister states also, that active consideration is now being given to the question of establishing a special laboratory for the investigation of dairy problems. The result of these investigations will be awaited with great interest by dairy farmers.
