The Matamata Presbyterian congregation have “extended a call” to the Rev. A. C. Hampton, of Waipu. Mrs J. A. Clothier of Ruakaka, and Mrs W. A. Clark of Elstow, left on Tuesday for Christchurch, where they will spend a holiday; Mr and Mrs W. Hallett, of Waitoa, left by the express on Tuesday morning to attend the wedding of Miss B. Carroll, which took place at Te Awamutu yesterday. Mr A. B. Charters, M.A., inspector of schools for the Auckland district, has been appointed principal of the Whangarei High School. There were 33 applicants. Monday was the 21st birthday of the Hon. Lucy Jellicoe, eldest child of Their Excellencies. In honour of the occasion a small dinner-party and dance were given at Government House. His Worship the Mayor, Mr R. Coulter, will officially extend a welcome to the girls attending the Presbyterian Bible Class Conference, at the Te Aroha Presbyterian Church on Good Friday morning, at a quarter to eleven o’clock. The Rev. W. J. and Mrs Elliott, of the Methodist Church, Cambridge, visited Te Aroha this week and spent a few days with Mrs Maingay, senr., mother of Mrs Elliott. Mr Elliott was superintendent of the Methodist Church at New Plymouth for the last three years. The death is announced of Mrs Lusby, of Waitoa, relict of the late Mr George Lusby, at the advanced age of 86 years. The deceased lady passed away at the home of her son-in-law, Mr H. Hyde, of Waitoa. The funeral took place at the Te Aroha cemgtery yesterday.
