NOTES AND COMMENTS
CATERING FOR TOURISTS
COMMERCIAL men who have been visiting the West Coast are enthusiastic concerning its commercial possibilities and its attractions for the tourist. But a word is added respecting' accommodation. There is no unkind criticism, but just a warning that if wealthy tourists are wanted there must be transport and accommodation which will satisfy them when they come. This applies to parts of New Zealand other than the West Coast. A satisfied tourist is the best advertisement the Dominion can obtain for its scenic wealth. Many overseas tourists arc elderly people, or are travelling for their health, for the young and vigorous cannot always spare the time and money to come to New Zealand. Elderly people do not wish to rough it. If they are to be brought here, attention must be given to their comfort. This is work for private enterprise. In some parts of New Zealand it has been successfully undertaken, but other districts lag behind.—Wellington Post.
