The Bank of New Zealand has decided to erect a fine new head office at the corner of Pollen and Sealey street, Thames. The present building in Grahamstown will be a subsidiary office to the new main one to be erected. The Bank of New South Wales has also decided to erect new premises in Pollen street, opposite Messrs Hetheringtons Ltd. The decision to go in for these new and up-to-date premises augurs well for the confidence that the banking institutions have in the Thames and its future. The old superstitious idea that a black cat brings good luck still lingers in the minds of many people. The Cambridge bowling team competing in the Thames tournament had for their mascot a carved black cat, with a red ribbon round its neck, attached to a black plush pad, bearing the initials of the Club. Evidently the pad is to pin the medals on when they win them. The mascot is placed on the bank near the rink number, and goes from rink to rink with the team. The Cambridge team was the only team to register three wins up to the close of play last evening, so evidently the black cat is bringing them luck.
