DAIRY CONTROL
ELECTION OF BOARD BY DIRECT VOTE OF DOMINION PRODUCERS POLL BY POSTAL BALLOT The Department of Agriculture is getting all necessary arrangements in train for carrying out the poll for the election of the producers’ representatives on the Dairy Produce Export Control Board, in view of the fact that the proclamation declaring in force the Dairy Produce Export Control Act will shortly be issued. The Act requires that six members of the Board shall be elected by direct vote of producers in the South Island. The Crown Law Officers have decided that this necessitates taking a vote over the whole of the North Island and the South Island respectively, and prevents the ward system of voting being used. The poll will be taken by postal ballot,, and all secretaries of dairy companies are being requested to provide the Electoral Department with lists of present suppliers, corrected up to date. The lists are to be in the hands of the Electoral Department by November 16th. It is intended that nominations of candidates shall be required to be in the hands of the Electoral Department not later than November 22nd, and that the poll shall close at noon on December 13th. Regulations to this effect are now in course of preparation, but this early notification is made so that those interested can have as much time as possible to make their arrangements.
