ANNIVERSARY

METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL VERY SUCCESSFUL SERVICES The Anniversary Services of the Methodist Sunday School were held on Sunday last and were very successful. The weather was all that could be desired and leqt color to the animated scene within the church as the girls and young ladies came out in summer white and hues. There were three services, morning, afternoon and evening—good congregations assembling each time, especially in the evening, when the entire seating accommodation was taxed to the utmost. The children and choir rose to the occasion splendidly, and did credit to their conductor, Mr C. Rayner, who had not spared himself in training the singers for the occasion,. Miss Wilson Henderson presided -at the piano and organ respectively, while Mr Buchan, by his skilful manipulation of his «ornet v added tone and harmony to the music. The Rev. S. Henderson conducted each service, and spoke to the youpg people at the morning service from the text P 51.119, v. 9, “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way, by taking heed thereto according to thy word.” At the afternoon service the subject was “Life as a Voyage,” The preacher showed how a wreck may be caused by accident in midocean and yet recovered by a rescue ship and towed to safety, or again the voyage may be a safe one and the ship arrive safely at her destination. Thus life was compared to a voyage. At the evening service the subject was “What manner of child shall this be”—Luke 1, v. 66. The discourse was directed mainly to parents and adults. The preacher endeavoured to answer the question of the text by showing the part which heredity and environment played in the making of a child. Parentage must I be clean, as the stream cannot rise higher than the source. The home life must reinforce the work of the Sunday school teacher. The evils that poison our community life must be removed so that children may have a chance. The services were very hearty throughout, and the offerings for the day constituted a record, the children of the Sunday school being the collectors. Miss Doris Gower and Miss Edna Stuck were the soloists, and sang very sweetly.
