CROSSING FATALITY
MARRIED WOMAN KILLED MAN AND BOY INJURED A shocking level crossing accident, resulting in the death of a married woman, injuries to her younger son, and severe injuries to an elderly man, occurred at the George street railway crossing, Rocky Nook, Auckland, at 9.18 o’clock on Sunday evening, when a milk cart came into collision with the Auckland-Henderson train. Particulars of the victims are:— Killed —Mrs Jessie Antoinette Burt, of 3, Arnold street; Kingsland, aged between 35 and 40, wife of Mr Albert Burt, road contractor.
Severely Injured—Mr John Taylor, aged 51, dairyman, and driver of the cart, of Morningside; left leg fractured, and head injuries; condition serious.
Injured—Donald Burt, only son of Mr A. Burt, aged 7; severe injuries to left leg, and shock. The engine struck the left side of the cart, smashing it to pieces. Mrs Burt was struck on the head and was picked up dead on the cattle-stop on the lower side of the crossing. Mr Taylor was also thrown on the cattle stop. The little boy was found conscious and in great pain on the footpath. The horse was cut clear of its harness and was not hurt.
