MATAMATA FATALITY

TRAIN AND MOTOR COLLIDE TAXI-DRIVER KILLED On Wednesday afternoon a serious accident occurred at Matamata as a result of which a taxi-driver was killed and a passenger in the car, was seriously injured.

It appears that Mr Frederick Morrow, taxi-driver, was driving Mr W. Crowther, of Auckland, into the country to look at a property, and when passing over a level crossing about two miles out of town the car collided with a passing train, and was carried along about 25 yards. The two men were picked up but of the shattered car, and received medical attention. They were then brought into Matamata, but Mr Morrow expired on the way. Mr Crowther is suffering from severe shock, but is recovering.
