ELSTOW DISTRICT
SOCIALS AND EUCHRE. At Elstow on the 27th ultimo a most enjoyable and very successful social and euchre tourney was held. During the evening the season’s euchre championships were decided, and the ladies’ honors being won by Mrs Snelgar, and Mrs Bones was run-ner-up. Mr F. Flowerday secured the gents’ championship and Mr S. Campbell was. second. The evening’s prize for the ladies was secured by Mrs Bones, and Mr H. Cornelius was successful in the mens division, and Mr Cavanagh was awarded the “booby prize.” The prizes were given by the business people of Te Aroha. Ihe music for the dance was supplied by Mr A. McQuarters. THE FINAL TOURNEY
The final evening in connection with the series of euchre tourneys and dances held at Elstow to augment funds for the proposed new hall was held on Friday evening, when a large attendance of patrons was present, and a vei-y pleasant night’s enjoyment was spent. The euchre tourney resulted in Mrs Hirst winning the ladies’ first prize, and Miss Snelgar the “booby” prize; while the gents’ first went to Mr Hirst and the “booby” to Mr A. Hirst. A special prize of a very useful piece of crockeryware, presented by Messrs D. McL. Wallace, Te Aroha, was won by Mr Percy Warren, who afterwards returned it to the committee to be competed for by the ladies, and Mrs Hirst was the successful one. The series of socials show a clear profit of £l6/10/f- for the season, and this amount will be put towards the new hall fund.
