The Te Aroha News Published Tuesday , Thursday & Saturday Mornings Saturday, April 28, 1923 BOROUGH ELECTION.

We heartily congratulate the ratepayers on the results of the Municipal Election. Lt was obvious to us that there would be few changes in the personnel of the Couuoil, and the Council will be strengthened by the acquisition of the new member who> not unexpectedly, headed the pollWe congratulate him on his initial achievement. We recognise there was no serious opposition to th e policy of the Council amongst th e now candidates ; at least the thre e defeated candidates put forward n° public platform of objection. They all tacitly approved the performances of the last Council and we feel that they are all of them worthy of public recognition as occasion offers in the future. It is undeniable that there was organised opposition to some of the successful members, partly on personal, partly on vindictive, and partly on contemptible grounds. These factors enter into all elections and the exponents of them might well be consigned to oblivion by the changes of “anaemia’’ or some equally squalid process of degeneration. Among the re-elected we welcome the fighting member, who so ably conducted the Council's sanitary campaign during the last two years and earned for the Council the encomiums of tho Health Department. Also the financial member who modestly proclaims himself a poor relation, ’’ and tho “employee.*’ We especially congratulate His Worship the Mayor ou the return of all the contesting members of his last Council. We foreshadow two years of farther confidence in him and his public efforts for progress and prosperity : he has indeed vindicated his claims to high recognition. It is

agreeable to look forward to the fulfilment of many promised undertakings to a minimum of municipal discord and to a much needed continuity of policy in public administrative work.
